Description

THE HARVEYS
A Farming Family in Thundersley, Hadleigh & Faraway Places

Until the creation of railway network during the latter part of the nineteenth century, southeast Essex was a rural backwater. Nevertheless given its strategic location overlooking the River Thames, the maritime trade route to London, southeast Essex was destined to fall prey to commercial enterprise and industrial progress.

This book tells the story of the Harvey family born into an age before the internal combustion engine and when Essex was a largely rural agricultural economy.

Thoroughly researched by Vivienne Salmon the great granddaughter of the patriarch Stephen Harvey, the book is brought to life with over 150 colour, black and white illustrations and maps.
