A special offer from Leigh Society
Old Leigh originally penned by Henry Newman Bride in 1954 and described as the best little potted history of Old Leigh has been reprinted and updated three times. The book gives a detailed history of Old Leigh covering its ships, sailors and leading personalities and curiously the wonderful variety of nicknames given to local family names. The book covers parish affairs, naturally the fishing industry and later the coming of the railways which with it brought many changes to people’s lives and business.
Old Leigh Port Through Times of Change published by Leigh Society in 2020 brings together a collection of personal memories and recollections often going back decades that bring a unique insight into the town. Personal stories are important to record and share and through them we learn about people and personal social history from those who have lived at the heart of the community.
