Description
The Shoebury Story
By Maureen Orford
Although there had been raids by the Saxons, the Vikings, local insurrections and disputes within the church, the parishes of North and South Shoebury had led a largely peaceful life until the mid-nineteenth century. However, this ended when the military arrived, a garrison established and weapons testing began in earnest. The railway then was extended from Southend and with it came new housing and population no longer dependant on farming.
