Southend on Sea in the Great War
By Francis Clamp
A fortified place was the way the enemy described Southend-on-Sea during the First World or Great War. Southend was regarded a legitimate target. It lay strategically beside the River Thames with the Shoebury Garrison to the east, Rochford Aerodrome to the north and the Pier, the longest in the world where soldiers were transported from to France. Southend-on-Sea in the Great War is a well- researched work that examines the lives of ordinary people who coped the unexpected problems that war brings.
Original RRP £9.99 107 pages, with over 40 black and white images and maps, 2014, Pen and Sword.
