The National Railway Museum at York was officially opened in 1975, 150 years after the historic opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
The National Railway Collection celebrates the history of the railways reflecting the interests of the various private railway companies which includes signalling, civil engineering, shipping, docks and warehousing.
The contents cpmprehensively cover locomotives, rolling stock, signals, bridges, tunnels and stations as well as the social side of the railways such uniforms, medals, heraldry and posters.
The book is beautifully illustrated with over 300 photographs including some 100 in colour. This is a book that will appeal as much to the general reader as to the railway enthusiast.
